Renovations

Check out all of the exciting changes to current facilities

What renovations will be made?

The bond will provide for the following renovations:

  • Renovations to the cafeteria will allow the district to reduce the number of lunch periods from four to two, meaning students will not have extreme time discrepancies between meals.
  • Renovations to the kitchen will take place to allow for more storage and operating space.
  • Renovations to the gym locker rooms will take place to revitalize the space and remove asbestos.
  • Renovations to the current HS/MS office will take place to consolidate the two school offices and allow for a centralized secure entry into the building.
  • Renovations to classrooms will take place to make existing space more efficient and increase the functionality of existing rooms.
  • Renovations to existing space to create a new teacher lounge will take place provide a larger staff restroom and space for staff to sit and eat which the space currently lacks. This renovation is required due to changes to the kitchen space.

Cafeteria

The current cafeteria is not large enough for current district needs. Currently, the district runs four lunch periods:

  1. 10:50-11:15 - Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade
  2. 11:20-11:45 - 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 5th Grade
  3. 11:50-12:15 - Middle School
  4. 12:19-12:44 - High School

This forces some students to eat lunch as early as 10:50 and causes multiple scheduling headaches. To work around this, some students currently eat lunch in classrooms.

The cafeteria will be renovated by removing the wall between the now cafeteria and what is known to many as the “IDL Room” or to some as the “Old Library” - increasing the length. It will also be widened by removing the current storage areas that sit between the cafeteria/IDL room areas and the hallway, meaning the new interior wall would be the hallway wall itself.

A picture of the existing cafeteria is below with red “X” marks to indicate which walls will be removed.

Kitchen

The kitchen will be expanded into the existing teacher lounge. This will allow for more space that will be needed to serve the higher number of students eating simultaneously.

The current kitchen is at capacity, meaning that necessary items like additional warmers would have no place to go.

Locker Rooms

The locker rooms in the gym will be renovated and totally reimagined. During the gutting process, asbestos abatement will take place.

Office

The current HS/MS office will receive significant modifications. This will accomplish multiple different tasks:

  • Provide the necessary ADA entry point for the centralized secure entry addition.
  • Place school administrators and secretaries in a single location allowing for better communication and a single point of reception for parents and patrons.
  • Remove administrative personel from random building locations. Currently, the counselor occupies half of what used to be a classroom and the elementary office occupies the other half.
  • Allows currently used space to return to an educational format, providing space for smaller functions like Title I and Special Education which may not require a full classroom worth of space.

Overall, the change allows a reduction in the size of the space occupied by the counselor, provides a dedicated identical space for each principal, and leverages the current office space for use by both building secretaries.

Drawing below shows room 211, the existing Elementary Office, and room 209, the current Counselor’s office.

Classrooms

The district has included a budget for classroom renovations within the total bond amount. Final classroom renovation plans have not been finalized and will be done based on both teacher and site council guidance, with the scope depending on the total remaining bond funds coupled with the original budget.

Teacher Lounge

Due to kitchen renovations, the teacher lounge must be moved. This new space will allow for room to sit and eat for staff members, which the current space does not provide enough room for. Additionally, a restroom will be added that will be larger and more suitable than the current staff restroom which does not contain its own sink.

This improvement, while necessary due to kitchen renovations, will aid in the district’s ongoing efforts to hire and retain quality staff.
